Buying a MK1
If I decide to go down the Golf route (which is looking ever more likely!) I'll be on the lookout for an non-runner, unfinished project etc…. What should I be on the look out with regards to the dreaded tinworm, wheres are the known rust spots etc? How easy is it to source replacement panels etc. The engine and box I'm not overly bothered about as it'll be getting an engine transplant. Any chassis/brake related problems to be on the lookout for would be good too. Cheers guys

Being as youv'e never have had a Golf it's time to get stuck in lol.
Have a look at the link will give you an idea.

Plenty of cars for sale in the cars for sale section so have a nosey through there.
I suppose it's down to budget and it sounds like your capable of doing the work yourself.
So good luck and shout out if you get stuck, plenty of knowledgeable people on here.
If you need to buy parts and insurances being a paid Member gets you discounts on parts suppliers and Insurance companies so you may well, save more than the cost of the fee it's self and your supporting the best club out there too.
Just think of it as a first little investment.
Cheers

hi there if looking for a good project mk1 gti look at mine in newbies under crazycam.fully running, gave up my large premises and put it in lock up for safe keeping.no electricity to paint and prep car but thats all it really needs or get painted shell and use all my parts.wont get a better engine without going turbo or 16v,this looks stock under hood but motor today would cost 5grand easy.willing to sell motor throw in other parts real cheap,eg big front/back disc brakes.etc etc etc drop me a line
Cheers for the offer but I'm after a non-gti car, pref rolling shell as I'll source my own engine/box. I'll be fitting a fuel efficient and reliable engine, as opposed to one with all out power, (that'll be my next project as I'll be building a track car after this one is finished!) because its going to be my daily driver!
