Bumpers/Arch Trims - What Are We Using To Blacken?

Still unsure on whether they should b a dark grey or black orginally

Anyway i want mine black and was wondering if there was anything other than the black 'bumper black' or 'back to black' i could be using? i'm currently using a black polish/dye from Wilkos of all places that looks good for about a week then slowly goes back to grey!

Thought about prepping and spraying them in say a matt black?

Your thoughts/solutions please.

you can spray plastic, we have some special stuff at work for plastic but i've forgotten what its call

if it is sprayed, you lose the texture that they have orginally

i use either veg oil on my bumpers or auto glym bumper stuff and it does a very nice job and last well

hth :)

Use Armoural (available in Halfords) about £5, works a treat and keeps plastics looking nice n shiney, and
wheel arch trims black etc. Try it!.

think its turtle wax black bumper cream i use? it takes ages to put on and is messy stuff but lasts well. not a fan of back to black. its easy to spray on but it doesnt last and dust sticks to it.

I often read about penut butter but never tried it. i have this image of spreading a nice layer of penut butter on the bumper with a knife!

I've dine the peanut butter method and I was shocked to discover that it actually worked!!! Haha very tempted to lick my car though :) it lasted a couple of moths too. I used boiled linseed oil last time to give it a try and it came up really well and was very easy to apply, just used a small sponge to rub it in a bit. It only took 10 minutes to do the whole car and the results were really good :D

heat gun :)

Ditto for the heat gun, just done one of my mk1 arches and came up a treat, been using this trick on mk2 GTi's for years!!

Last much longer than rubbing a product on and works out a lot cheaper too, just don't go too mad

keep moving the heatgun about and don't concentrate for too long in one area as you'll burn/ overheat the arch

returns a more original finish to the arch, ie not overly shiny, just original!
