building a track car

ok with so many different track days going on what would need to be done to have a road legal track car


im sure im not alone in saying i think we should take a leaf out of the cgti forum and possibly look at arranging a mk1oc trackday tour for next year

i know paul_c has tried before but ive noticed recently more and more people are becoming more interested in track days

so hands up if its a good idea

It all depends how mad you want to go, my last car had FIA Monaco seats and FIA 3" webbing 4 point harnesses fitted, the engine was lightly fettled and the suspension was just lowered with beefed up tie bars to help under braking, the brakes were groved discs with ebc black stuff pads and new rear drums and pads and the key factor - dot5.1 brake fluid as its higher temp stuff and gives a better feel.

my next car will be more track focused prob with a cage and no rear seats etc, but so long as it will pass a mot, ie normal road tyres and emissions its not too bad, also depends how nice your mot man is, as my harnesses arent legal as they are a aircraft turn buckle not a single button release.

i think between members that have track car knowledge it would be good to put together a faq for road legal track cars

im thinking of doing the nurburg ring with cgti next year unless we arrange somthing on here

I have limited knowledge at the moment for golfs but alot of what I looked into for the minis will swap over as the prinicples are the same so if i can help I will.

One other thing you will need is a helmet, as this is often over looked so set aside ?100 or so for one.

I would rather do a track day with MK1oc than CGTI ,how cool would it be to see 10+? Mk1 in a convoy to the ring!!,count me in  8)

its just an idea for now but i think that there would be a few people interested in driving to the ring for a long weekend

we all do the shows and some of us show our worth on the strip at the pod but how cool would it be to go to the ring as a club and show cgti how it should be done  

just need a volunteer to organise it now :wink:

even a track day tour would be cool

I reckon an FAQ on weight loss (for the car ) and one on official rules and regulations would also be helpful.

How about some pics for comparison?

I can do some pics on the roll cage, buckets and harness front as I will hopefully have a mk1 to start on by the weekend all being well.
