BPC 518Y??

Haven't been here in a while! The golf has seen much better days and has been off the road for a while, and got a bit of a bug for bikes! however just remembered some chap at a petrol station coming up to me.  Explained that he recognised my number plate from a feature in a magazine years back, wondering if anyone had any ideas what that could've been?? its a mars red gti 16v engine and once quite high spec overall! - has a little gti international concurs plaque inside.  

Be great if anyone has any old mags with the feature, or any general history on the car, its been through many different hands and ive even met a couple of previous owners at the lights on odd occasions!
