both gutted...

A customer came in today for some granite worktops, man and wife in their mid to late 60's, one thing led to another and we get on to my love of old vw's, and the ol' man goes on to tell me the they had just part exchanged a 1975 golf for a new vw fox…unbelievable!!! but to make matters worst, they only got £200 for it, i was gutted… i then went on to tell them what sort of price, good early mk1 make..and we were both gutted….still at least they are having their worktops done!!!

i know mate, thought of nothing else since they left my office..just pissed as the last swallow tail i found was a 76' 2 door baby blue. and my mate had spotted it on the back of a lkm lorry(london and kent metals), and that had been taken for scrap, i went down there to see if i could buy it, they said they would track the owner and see if they would mind if they sold it on, but you could just tell they had no intention of doing so…soo frustrating..sure enough they squashed it 2 days later. it needed work but it was all there…

gutting… absolutely gutting.

Saw a mk1 series two on the back of a lorry the other day and not sure it was going to scrappy but made me feel gutted.  Could have been going to painters or anything but you never know.. due to the scrapage scheme, some people are destroying them and not knowing what they actually have… an iconic car

this is happening all the time!!! its gut wrenching., i heard a story when the scrappage had kicked in big style about a dealer who refused to take a car as it was a 1950 something or other as it was too iconic to scrap.(i know its not a mk1) but its a similar story. Maybe there should be a law about this type of thing, bit similar to listed buildings. after all they are living history. and very rare

Not a bad idea that.  We should preserve history… coins… buildings….. why not cars??

Get down there,u might be surprised,a few yrs back there was an old boy here that traded his brown mk2 escort 2dr into a Ford dealership for their latest basemodel crap,it laid up round the back for weeks,it was mint too,i knew it was traded in there but thought it would be snapped up,i went round a month later at 11o`clock at night and it was there, they wanted £800 for it but never had it out the front cos it didnt kinda fit in with all the other new stuff, next morning i shot to the bank and got the tank and went up there at dinner, only to find a local rallyboy had been in that morning and snapped her up. So i ended up buying another Lotus Sunbeam instead because i had the RWD thing still in my head.

I used work in a Marble firesurround factory, loved it, awesome work, very rewarding. But the Granite was a T**t to polish and the inch thick stuff was heavy !!!!!!  really miss the work    (not the dust tho), i now work in a bank, which, yes is as dull as it sounds!

btw get down to the dealers and get it snapped up!
