Bit of a result !! G60 brakes

just got back from my local scrap yard where he has a G60 Corrado with engine and all running gear in place.

Just paid ?180 for Front and Rear discs calipers carriers hubs master cylinder and servo.  Good Deal?

What do i need to fit this little lot to my Sportline?

He still has the engine in its complete state he wants ?450 for it the car has 105k on the clock.

will get the phone number tomorrow if anyone is interested in the engine and box?

hi i got all the same bits for my tin top gti

the back brakes was easy as the stub axles bolt straight onto rear beem
i bought new splash guards from vw they wer not too pricey
you need handbrake cables for 16v scirocco i may have part no if you need it

the front has been more complicated tho
i decided to use the whole front hub assembly from the corrado as the caliper carriers etc fit it
however the hub carrier is thicker and the bolt holes dont take mk1 suspension
i had this machined down so it would fit mk1 suspension and altered the position of the bolt hole also
i also fitted mk3 bottom ball joints into mk1 wishbones (slight mods req)

i have yet to complete this

the other issue is that the point where the track rod end goes in is positioned differently on mk1 but i rekon i can get around this as the car is lowered and think mk2 track rod ends will help

if anyone else has done this i would also like advise
also if anyone can tell me if any of above is incorrect please let me know

sounds like a lot of grief on the front brakes.

i think i have seen something on hear about G60 brakes and they used an adapter plate / bracket to take calipers on mk1 hubs.

part number for 16v Scirroco cables would be great

Do you REALLY need rear discs ?

There i a reason why most of the top tuning companies stopped selling rear disc conversions for the mk1 !!!!!

I run a G60 mk1 with about 185 BHP with standard rear drums.

You only really need the fronts being a little bigger and the MK2 golf servo and master cylinder would be your best modification.

Thanks all

having a mare fitting these G60s got the suggested plates off ebay but cant figure out which way round they fit to take the G60 280mm discs  either way i try something clashes any pics or links anywhere??
i have got the corrado hubs but it seems like a lot of work to get these to fit to a mk1. am i right?

the car has got 250 mm discs and girling 54 callipers fitted already are these an upgrade ?if so should i just call it a day?

got the rears all sorted bar the jump hoses and hand brake cables

Thanks for the part number

239 are standard and 256 would be an upgrade!! Which mounts did you get for the brakes as i was just about to buy some??

And for the disc thing, must just be for cosmetic reasons as there won't be that much difference, is there?? I want it just cause they look good and due to the fact i hate working on drums

g60 conversion problem

im half way through doing a mk1 g60 conversion ,
iv got the whole front end of a g60 corrado, discs, callipers, hubs, hub carrier (frame) engine ecttt…
i have came across a problem though got all the front end fitted but mk1 golf coilovers doesent slot into the g60 hub carriers :S
does this mean i have to buy 2 sets of coilovers mk1 golf for the back and g60 for the front ?
or am i right buy saying a mk2 golf coilovers set would do the job

helpppppp !!!

LOL by fitting the corrado hubs you will screw up your geometry.

Chink, you bolt the adaptor to the hub then the caliper to the adaptor, simples. you will prob want to do a 9" servo and 22mm m/c to go with them.

I heard that fitting mk2 16 valve hubs will work with g60 brakes. But as said it messes geometry. You have to get extensions of some sort for the bottom ball joint and the track rod has to be raised to eliminate bump steer.

How are 256s meant to be fitted?
mk1/mk2 8v golf hubs are the same so only 239s can be fitted. Whats different to fit 256s?
