BBS rims and similar

I like the look of split rims and the way they have a massive lip which makes the rim actually quite deep but however they are a lot of money.  So are there any rims which are like BBS RMs' which still have the big lip which sticks out and make stretched tyres look even more better.  I know about the Lenso BSX but not sure actually how deep they are or how big the lip is.  I also want the wheels to be as wide as possible!  I also quite like the look of the Rota RB rims.  I want to fit them to my 1983 Mk1 Golf GX which has 4 stud, x100 and I think the offset is et28?

I am open to suggestions to other rims as long as they are not too expensive and are, wide, deep, with a big lip like the split rims.

depends what your budget is.

Like DannyEss said it all depends on how much you are willing to part with.  It can range a lot with rims, banded steels are wide and can have a lip but don't cost too much.  Then there is the likes of custom image wheels and bbs rs.  What is your budget and you'll get a much better response.

Compared to splits, maybe. But they're not much cheaper than most 1pc alloys.

You're looking to pay at least ?340 to have a 1" band put in, and then you've got to pay for the steels themselves, so if you got a cheap second hand pair you're probably looking at ?400, if you bought new G60s you'd be looking at about ?470. Add around ?160 worth of decent quality rubber?

For ?560 all in (assuming you got cheap steels) they're not that much cheaper than the run of the mill ATS/Borbet/Rota/Lenso designs you see a lot of.

Best bet if you're on a tight budget is looking for some second hand sets of things like ATS Classics etc. There are lots of them about, so they're cheap enough second hand, and they have a bit of dish.

Re: BBS rims and similar

Roughly a decent set of RMs will set you back about ?7/800. You could find some that needed a refurb for cheaper and then re-build them to whatever spec you wanted.

the lenso BSX are 1 piece replicas of RS and are 7.5" wide, i dont think theres that much dish for a 7.5" rim.

if you want wheels with a big dish then you wont really be able to stay at et28, however just because they are a lower ET doesnt mean they wont fit.

If you want 14" wheels then Borbet T come in with a nice dish. you're still looking at about ?400 new without tyres for them though.

have a look on www.dubmeister.co.uk as they have a good selection of wheels.

but its all about your budget. If you've only got about ?300 to spend then you're not really going to find and real split rim wheels.

Sorry just remembered something. As an option, You could get some cheap 13" wheels from this place, though they'd be the wrong PCD so you'd have to do some work to make them fit. A couple of people on here have mini wheels on their Golfs, but I'm not sure how they managed it. Possibly wobble bolts.

I would like to spend about ?500 - ?550 but if need be I would go up to ?600 I just can't quite stretch to the price of BBS RM's and wondered wether there were any other wheels out there which had a similar style with the big lip on them!  I have also just been looking at getting my current original steels widened.  I am not sure how much this will cost or whether I can get a lip put on as well? Also I am not sure if there is anywhere which can do it in the area of Bromley Kent?

Thanks for all the help so far!!

if you have steel wheels currently then give these people a call/email http://www.wide-wheels.co.uk/

i wouldnt really go to a backstreet garage to get steels widened. them guys give a certificate etc to show they are road worthy.

With the Lenso BSX I prefer the black ones because it would make it look deeper than it actually is and my car is silver.  But I do not like the way the centre cap is silver on the black ones.

Do you know if you can get black centre caps for these wheels or even better do you know whether the black centre caps saying 'BBS' will fit.

I would also probably try and get the 16" version as they are wider but then they are a bit too much money really?!?!?!

I just have to decide between a shallow looking rim or a bigger deep rim.  And I will be lowering it!

How about Anniversary BBS alloys, like the ones fitted to the Mk3?  They did them on the Mk4 Cabriolet and they are 4 stud.

I *think* they are splits?

mk3 anniversary rims are bbs rxII's and are 5x100,you can get the same rims of polos that are 4x100

they dont have a big rim though and cant make them wider.

id just save up abit more and get some RMs as it seems that that is what you really want.

agree totally.

Or maybe just big rimmed wheels already wether their splits or not, if you want deep just try and find deep.

Thanks for the help everyone I will have to think it over because I am only 16 at the moment and its my first car and also next month I am hiring a small lift to get the engine out and then I am rebuilding the engine and buying new silicon hoses, piston rings, getting it skimmed etc…. and I do not want to spend all my money on the rims because I work part time at halfords and have just been saving up for AGES.
So far it is just a standard (spotless with NO rust) Mk1 Golf GX 1.5 with an alpine head unit and a weber carb.

Once again thanks for the advice and I will look around (eBay) and have a think about it!
