Back on the road

Had my MK1 since Tues and finally sorted most of it out.  It had real bad previous owner syndrome  :banghead:

Fixed the digifant it needed a real good clean ie AFM idle valve all of the inlet and all the breathers and there are a fair few of them    Next was the timing and after spending about an hour scratching my head trying to work it all out I came to the conclusion the flywheel timing mark was wrong. As well as the cam being 1 tooth out. I put on a new mark on the flywheel with paint and all went well from there.  Fixed 3 water leaks while I was under there too.

Took it up the road and the diff went bang.  With some help from this forum on rear ratios and few hours searching I found a nice box with a diff bolt conversion which had been rebuilt recently.  Spent 5 hours driving to get it and about 4 hours changing it out and while it was off I put the flywheel on right so now my timing marks line up. Re timed it with the flywheel in the right place and my paint dob was not far off at all

Took it out for an hour and had a great drive in it.  Drives real nice this is my first MK1 and I love it to bits.

Still a few things to sort out like the hidious straight thru exhaust with motor bike end can its way too loud     I have ordered a poly bush kit as most of the frons are shot anyway.  Its in for a couple of front tires this week.  Need to look at one engine mount as it just dont look right I think it has been bodged by the previous owner too.

Just gave it a wash and now im off for a pint

If its not broke....I will break it
