Autochoke and Braking

hey guys :D
decided to finally get prepared to start my mk1 golf project..

first problem i need some help with is… my autochoke is f**ked… the car is idling at 2k revs… after a while of driving changing gear causes the car to stall… anyone else had this problem.. mines a 89 1.8 caddy….

second problem is brakes… stiff pedal and no real braking… is it master cylinder… not sure cos ive only ever had rear cylinder problems…

would be great if anyone could help me :D

thank you

Laurence

sounds like the vacuum pipe to the brake cylinder is cracked and someones upped the revs to make it run :)

What he said.

You could also consider the reverse scenario; does the temp gauge sit central-ish as you're driving, as it should?  Mine idles at 2000 if it's thick ice outside and I've not used it for a bit, then drops to 800 or so.  If the engine's not warming up the autochoke stays on and the engine idles high.  So, could the normal idle speed have been turned down too much in an attempt to compensate for the fast cold idle?

check zee 2ed2 faq in the big block carb section, covers just about everything that can go wrong on these carbs.
