Attempted theft on my Mk1 :(

Yesterday morning, while I was at work, my mother saw my car door open, and phoned me saying I'd left it open, knowing it wasnt me I rushed home to find the steering lock snapped off and a screwdriver rammed into the ignition, it was obvious that they were just after the car as they are getting pretty popular now, and they left the radio! Which wasnt cheap. The car isn't fitted with an immobiliser or an alarm, would it be worth fitting one of these to deter thieves?

They've made a mess of the car, when taking a chunk of the dash out, bent the shit out of the steering column and shattered the rest of the internals.

Looks like I'm off the road until I can get it all sorted, but for now, I'm sleeping with one eye open and blocking the drive with 2 other cars!

Watch out!

The 140 was for immobiliser only. I think for an alarm aswell it would of been 190

I despise anybody to mess with someone elses pride and joy. Make sure that it's kept somewhere safe from now on. you don't want them coming back and having another go.

Absolute scum of the earth. Hope you get it fixed

Ignition is Fubar, need a new ignition and housing and VW said they're obsolete! I'd rather put a legit one in rather than a repro. So if anyone knows of any, I'd appreciate it :)

It's still on the drive but they wont get far without a rotor arm and steering wheel! ;)

Thanks!

Even if an alarm goes off, does anybody take any notice? My first cabby had an alarm, and sometimes it was fine with the roof down…sometimes not - embarrassing when you're in a shop and you hear your alarm going off! Nobody ever went to investigate.

My current Golf has an immobiliser with a button hidden and totally invisible with a flashing led on the dash when activated. So far, so good.

Sorry to hear about the attempted theft. These people are just SCUTTERS!

I know I say this all the time but……………..even if the cops caught the people who tried to take it, they would do nothing about it. I bet you would of liked to have caught them in the act?
