Are all clippers carbed?

Might sound an odd question but there's a 1993 clipper on ebay and it says it's fitted with the injection engine, spoke to the owner and he says its all original.
Was this a late runout model using the gti engine?

a real clipper is a 1.8 carb engine not injection

and another thing it really annoys me when people call there late spec gti cab's

gti clipper karmen theres no such f ing thing

no m8 karmen started fitting the kit to late spec gti's but that does not mean its a clipper

in fact if you look at the cabby buying guide it shows you all the different models availible and what the spec was

Think the last Cabrios had GTI DX with digipants fuel injection hybrid engines due to the legally required catayst. This can casue problems later in life as no-one is familar with the setup and parts can be rare, i.e. expensive.

The 2H engine?

Digifant is brilliant. Massively economical, though preferable without the catalyst. I'd pay money and swap my Carbed Clipper for a GTI cabriolet in similar condition and I'd pay double the difference for a proper digifant setup (not modded).

Karmann (if you're going to be a pedant, be accurate) built the cars. It might be up there with "Robin Reliants", but calling it a Karmann cabriolet is no less daft than distinguishing Hebmüller and Karmann Type 1s.

Strictly speaking, I think the correct term is to call them a big bumper Mk 1, but that terminology certainly hasn't stuck. If you say it has a "Clipper" kit, people know what you mean; even if Clippers existed before the facelift, and the big bumpers are fitted to all Golfs after '88 or whenever it kicked off.

I have a 1993 clipper which is fitted with fuel injection due to the catalytic converter and emission regs.
Hope this helps?

but my point is what ever your picking at is the fact you don't get a clipper gti they don't exist its one or the other and sorry i miss spelt karmann
and it bugs the hell out of me reading  on ebay or a like

I have a '87 1.8 carb Cabrio which the original paperwork (even the logbook?) calls a Clipper. It has small bumpers. Shortly afterwards VW started fitting big (fat n ugly  ) bumpers. I think people linked the Clipper name with the big bumpers and now the two events have become merged into an urban myth/folklore/the truth. Did VW ever offically call the big bumpers "Clipper kit" :dontknow:

Clippers didn't all have big bumpers, but prob 95+% did. Later GTis were all fitted with the 'Clipper Kit' big bumpers. It is perfectly reasonable to expect non-VW anoraks to get confused and call them GTI Clippers or Clippers with GTI engines or GTI with Clipper kit etc.

Went to see yesterday and bought it.
It's an April 93 reg Golf Clipper Cabrio (as stated on the log book) fitted with the 1.8 inj engine with a cat fitted.
It's a 6 owner car with 81000 miles,all mot's and a stamped service book.
The cars drives so much better than my last one, very tight linkage and only half the scuttle shake.
After looking at 10 cars including some very over priced Sportline's I've finally found a nice original car.
All original paint apart from top of ns door and 1/4 being painted. With a bit of haggling I paid £1950 for it.
Will post some pics up tonight.

Im confused as its a gti not a clipper? my 93 clipper was carbed? even the brochures list them as carbed.
Only think i can think of is the legal requirements, sell it as a clipper but with a gti lump for emissons

I think that's what we covered earlier, the very last ones had to have a cat fitted hence the injection motor.

Not strictly Is it the same engine code as a Gti but the fuel injection is only there to compensate for the loss of power the cat gives, so the carbs (no cat) and the injection (not Gti) are fairly equal proformance. The later not gti, injection engines have different cams to the Gti and where never tuned as well as the later models only having 95bhp and the gti models tuned to a 112bhp knocking a whole second off the 0-60 time.

The later injection clippers are fairly rare as they didnt sell to well and late on run off models where made with higher spec leather sportline metallic paint all that jazz

VW call the 'clipper kit'…… bumper with intergrated spoilers with arch extension all colour coded.

You can see why it got nick named clipper kit lol
