So, that would be a 200 mile drive to London, so 400 round trip, BEFORE any trip from London to Brighton… Mmmm.  Sounds a trip too far.

Its a reasonable suggestion. Some of the regional meets focus on a drive out, rather than a static meet. But the club itself, has never really been that focused on "driving" events over "static" events, for some reason.

It just seems like such a good thing to do and the publicity for the club would be great and you never know in years to come might evan be as big as the mini run 8)

How many cars do they get on the Mini run? I think we need to be a bit more realistic…..attendance at annual meets isn't that huge, in comparison, etc etc.

Well normally between 2000 to 2500 but think its on a limit as too many people want to do it so as for my above comment its not going to happen any time soon but i dont know 100 to 200 cars would be cool

They had a small run out at the AGM last year which had good reports.

Not sure if one is being organised this year. Hope so. I missed it last year.

Its the only time everyone is together.

well we could run a poll to see who would attend either a london to brighton run or if anyone has a suggestion for a more origanal route then theres an idication if theres any point in trying to take it any further

Start small, work up to it. Get to a local meet and instead of sitting around, go for a 10 mile round trip. Get lots of pics done, get them here and see if others are interested in the idea.

Trends are funny and can come and go. Buxton meet was organised and originally (in almost winter weather) attracted 17. There was a follow up, in much better weather (summertime) but there was no vibe and it got exactly the same numbers.

So it would be a bit ambitious to jump in straight away; or get something regular established.

london to brighton is classed as a rally. meaning additional insurance.
you have to bare in mind that the mini has reached cult status where by everything it appears on or does is classed as cool. the london to brighton run is no longer about the cars it's about the fashion followers wanting to be involved.

there are still a lot of die hard mini fans who do the run dont get me wrong but there are a lot wannabes too.

buxton meet sounds like a good idea though.

have a word with lawsy he's the berkshire rep. or look in the regional bit.

How about from my house to the pub and back!
Its not far for me and it could become a classic.
I currently do this historical rally every weekend and can honestly say it gets better everytime!  :D

Exactly!!!!

Whenever something like this is talked about, there's loads of interest from people, but it mostly turns out that people want things on their doorstep and its really tricky to get a sizeable presence for a turn out. There are a couple of notable exceptions, though. This is why regional meets seem to be poorly attended in some areas. Last Mk1 Golf drive I did, I travelled some considerable mileage to do it (probably around 160) and others who attended, did over 200 miles that day.

It is a shame, and we only live in a tiny island.
I would be well up for the london to brigton idea but living in cornwall would meen i'd end up doing well over a thousand miles for the day!
Far too extreme on a mk1 golf.
But then again if at was an anual thing that was lots of people, lots of fun and worth it id do it!

funny this thread came up, i was having such a brainwave myself this afternoon, and was thinking about putting a thread up myself.

I can't see why people wouldn't want to do some king of "rally", although anual meets are cool it still would be well cool if there was something we the mk1 owners could do.

put a poll up on here and any other local area forum you use and see if you get any hits.

if people can drive to a gathering, then their cars will survive a rally.
(if mg and mini owners can manage some type of rally without too many breakdowns, then our german built machines will beet them all!)

gets my vote!

here for a good time, not a long time

Hi mate

in a simple answer, yes there is an annual drive of sorts

there is the annual gathering, sunday is more of a show, but on the saturday we have the AGM (not that long) but we also organise a mini Rally, about 30-40 miles around the venue for all mk1's to take place in…

We have also looked at organising a proper drive out, but logisitcs and then commitment from owners is more difficult to guarantee, it is something on the discussions tho

If you want to come along and be part of the rally but are not too bothered inthe show on the sunday, click my sig as below and order a SATURDAY only ticket

Should be a good weekend tho…
