all sorted...at last!

mk1 is sorted now :D no more rubbing, super low, paint sorted and weber 32/34 dmtl power
sounds so nice now as well and revs all the way up, pierburg was held on with 2 bolts and lots of silicone, wouldn't rev any higher than 4.5k and needed me to pump the throttle a dozen times to start!

cheers guys, had a bit of trouble on the way to work tonight though.

got halfway to work and waiting to turn off on a busy road my car decided to cut out, and wouldn't start. then when it did it spluttered all the way to the car park then cut out whenever i came off the throttle. dreading the journey home

that was short lived. the car refuses to idle, and is very reluctant to accelerate, smoke chugging out of the exhaust. walked to the nearest petrol station and got a jerry can full and then by the time i had got home 3 or 4 miles) it looks to have used all the petrol. wouldn't go above 20mph the main road to my house and cuts out at every set of lights :(
i'm thinking head gasket? :banghead:

never heard of having accelaration/starting/idle problems when a headgasket is on its way out…

Whats the coolant level like?
Any oil in the water or water in the oil?

Try idling the car (if it will) with the top off the coolant tank, and tell us what happens…

Sounds to me like the mixture is wrong on the carb. I'd get someone to take a look at it and set it up for you, unless you know what you're doing. It's a bit of a dark art as far as I know…
