Accelerator help needed!!
My accelerator pedal was a bit stiff when I came back from holiday recently. While out last week, I returned to the car, started it, and I slammed my foot hard on the accelerator pedal, to get it moving and it hit the floor, and stayed there, stuck to the floor!!!!! Luckily the road was empty and I have good brakes.
Anyway, the AA came, turns out only the rubber bit broke, the bush throttle thing, a bit like a wine bottle cork. Have now bought the part from Crazy Quiffs, fitted it, but don't know how to do the rest!!! Need help. Can't afford to call out a mechanic. I believe I need to get the cable to hook through the hole in the bush thing. I've done that, but there is no tension, and the accelerator pedal is still on the floor. Anyway, like I said, need help!

Yes, I think so. Basically I located a cable, with a sort of hook at the end, or just the way the cable bends a bit at the end. I believe this is the accelerator rod as you call it. I hooked it through the new rubber bush, and this is the stage where I am stuck. The accelerator is still quite low down near the floor, and I am wondering how do I get the tension required to make the accelerator work right again…Do I need to tighten the accelerator cable form inside the engine?

I'll have a look in the morning.
I don't think so though, the cable just peeps through, and is very taut and tight, it was a struggle to get it hooked into the rubber bush. That doesn't suggest it has popped out, but I will look. I presume I just open the bonnet and look around the carburettor? I haven't a clue, really….
Also, I hooked it in from the right side of the bush, should I have hooked the cable in from the left side. Does it matter?

1. Before adjusting the cable check that it correctly aligned over it's full length.
2. Have an assistant fully depress the accelerator pedal. Remove the air cleaner if necessary.
3.Check that the clearance between the throttle valve assembly (as applicable) and fully open stop is a maximum of 1.0mm (0.040 in).
Note that the throttle lever must not be hard against the fully open stop (ie there must be a small clearance).
4. There are three different cable adjustments. Where locknuts are provided at the engine end of the outer cable, loosen them, then adjust the cable position and tighten the locknuts. Where a ferrule and circlip are provided, extract the circlip, adjust the cable position then refit the circlip so that it is abutting the ferrule guide. On some models it is necessary to adjust the inner cable by loosening the clamp screw, repositioning the lever while holding the cable taut, then tightening the screw.

Hope this helps

you need to set it so that when your foot is flat to the floor, the carb is just at wide open throttle. it helps to have someone in the car holding the pedal down for you while you adjust it
