accelerator cable bush

having read on here about the above bush /grommet perishing i decided to check mine out. I was glad i did, it was so bad it reminded me of ginger cake , a strange comparison i know but it was just crumbling . Anyway 70 pence later at vw i had a new mk2 part which fitted perfectly solving the problem.

I found that mine had crumbled today unfortunately I was in the middle lane at a busy set of lights when I decided to go on strike on me.

ah not just so handy ,easy fix tho.

What is the reason for using the mk2 part, are they better, or is that all thats available?

VW sell mk1 part still

MK1 part is @£5  8O not sure what the difference is, if any between the two items

Thanks for the replies folks, I think ill give the mk2 part a go, the worst thing that can happen is I get a spare for the mk2 I suppose

This was the first fix I have do on mine. Got a few miles on the way back from a meal and mine popped out. Managed to balance it back in for the journey home. The original one was black and my new one was red!  

Ye my existing one or whats left of it is a kind of redish orange. I managed to shove it back in to get me home, The car has been in storage for 12 months and it was the first day out in it for ages, infact I only taxed it to use it over the weekend while the weather was good.   :cry:

I ordered two just in case i  needed one for my mk2 , the new ones are black my mk1 grommet was redish brown what was left of it .
i got the mk2 one purely because it was cheaper and others on here said it would do the job its roughly the size of a wine gum and at a fiver for the mk1  i think vw are havin a laugh !cant understand the disparity in pricing .mind you if the new one lasts over 25 years then it'll be doing well.

I ordered 3 today one for eack car and a spare    I think they were about 60p each should have them tomorrow
