5 Door MK1 GTI on ebay.

anyone know much about them?, trim looks poor spec though.

They don't exist!! Apart from the citi golf GTi

and i don`t even think that exists either, don`t think there is a citi golf gti, could be wrong mind you

er yes they do!!!!!

not sure about this one as its right hand drive

so was there a 5 dr gti made in south africa at around the same time the mk1 was out over here  :dontknow:

i think the early market SA golfs may have been based on the old original model mk1 though

i think main land europe got the 5 door gti and a gtd model that us in the uk missed out on until the mk2

there was a X reg Lhd around 18 months ago but that had gti trim too! 1.6 engine.

a 5dr GTI was made, never for the UK market tho, I think it was US and germany tho, but SA could have done one…
Plus its the model used on the Haynes manual merchandise as well thats a 5dr GTI..

Dotn forget SA models are RHD anyways as standard so that would explain it..

I know this is an old thread but US never got a 5 door GTI either. Just europe. America got 3 door gtis in MK1 form or the Rabbit GTI. The MK2 Golf was rare in a 5 door in America and then the MK3 was strictly 3 door then after the MK4 was only 3 door leave the 4 door market to the GLI while the 1.8t came in very very very few MK4 5 doors and are consider to some peole rare or desirable :dontknow:

South Africa had a five door gti, I owned one a few years back but it was as rotten as a pair due to the lack of underseal and our salted roads. Think it was a 83 or 84.
