198x MkI Golf GTC

Anybody know much about these?  Looks like an estranged South African specification GT but was apparently made by VWSA made between '82 and '84…

Another example…

This one has been modernised with CitiGolf specification bumpers…

Do they all come with idiotic wheels on?

The fabric roofs look awfully home made, and the series 2 lights make me think that they were simply hard tops that have been butchered, whether or not they were by VWSA or a third party company :dontknow:

Sadly, taste here in Souh Africa leaves a lot to be desired at times, especially when it comes to wheels. Anyway, it looks terribly home made but with there being a few of them I presume it was either VWSA or a specialist who did the work but the base car was a 2 door hard top shell. Trying to find more information on them but nothing so far…
