1982 4300 genuine miles !!!

Ok…………

My friends car has just over 4300 GENUINE (YES Four thousand three hundred) miles on it, it is completly standard apart from being lowered and MIM alloys (see photo) and is mint condition. You may of seen it on the show and shine at GTI inters…….

THIS CAR IS NOT FOR SALE

but we need a rough idea of how much it would be worth for insurance reasons……….

Muchos thankos

Any more pictures? Would love an engine bay picture.

I would hazard a guess at ?10 -?15k.

Just think how big a cheque you would take to part with it and there you are.

Or find another like it for sale and use that as a rough guide for price.

So that'd be priceless then.

errrmmm..... What someone does behind their own garage doors in private is up to them but why take a presumably immaculate 4,300 mile car and lower it, change the alloys and paint lots of bits bright red :dontknow:

1983 Mars Red 1.8 Golf GTI
1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Well it was lowered etc before it was brought so completely out of my friends control…………

But…………

Personally I think it has to be the one of the lowest milage mk1's around at the moment ???? Does anyone know a lower milage mk1 ???

Anyone ?? someone ??

how much would someone be willing to pay for her ???

Were trying to insure her for here genuine value so if (god forbid) anything was to happen to her we'd get the money back so any help is much appreciated………….

I will try and get some pic's within the next week of the entire car (engine bay included)……..

Futureclassiccars.com @ Bristol may give you a rough idea of retail price if you had to try and replace it!!
ONLY 4,300 miles  8O , there's Asda shopping trolleys with more mileage on!!!
Why did someone lower it and paint bits just to trundle it to the end of the drive and back

I no longer have the Mk1!! I now whizz round in a Black 1990 3dr Mk2 GTi 8v but the roof doesn't fold back when the sun shines :o

I'd say around ?5000. The fact that its low mileage adds to the value, but it takes it away from being a car and more into a museum piece or static work of art, or memorobilia, or something. Also bear in mind its a 1.6, and not a series 1, which makes it worth less. If it were put back to standard it would probably be worth more. I saw it at Inters but at a distance - there were so many other cars around, and I didn't spend too long in the show and shine area.

But as said so often before, the only real way to test its value, is to sell it and then the transaction price will give the value.

There was a white one that was totally original and immaculate, had covered 42k and it was up for 10k at Percival Motor Co. in Maidstone. It has since sold but i don't know if it fetched the asking price.I guess if yours was back to standard it should be worth at least that amount.
p.s. sell me those MIMS! where did you get them from? :dontknow:

Theres a 43,500 miler for sale in classic car mart from a company called purcivals, they do classics and its up for ?9500, so I would wager on ?14,000? If I didn't need to live in a house I would buy it and live under it, although the cat wouldn't like it to much!

Here is an early MK1 for sale on pistonheads, its only done 29,800 miles, apparently, (interiors not really to my taste but each to their own & all that…)

Used cars for sale - PistonHeads UK

hope this helps.

In the end it all rests on how much someone is willing to pay for it.  :?

LOL !!!!

Story behind her low mileage is……… that she was owned by VW and taken around shows, promos etc as a exibit back in the day, so that she was kept mint she was hauled around on a trailer………. hence the low low low mileage !!! It was then sold to my friend via one of his dads friends (who lowered it and put it on mims)
He brought it last year for a stupidly low price because it was a friend of the family and has been driving it since !!!

Only trouble is where its been sat around for so long doing diddly squat everything that goes wrong on it over 25 yrs has gone wrong in 6months   poor little car………

But shes rocking and rolling now and not being hidden away (well maybe for the few months of the year that mk1s dont like !!!)

I still think 10-15k in fully standard form. Nearer the ?10k mark though.

Where are these extra pictures?!!!

P.S. Is it just me or does everyone write 'brought' instead of 'bought' ?  :dontknow:

It seems that in all our eyes a car like this should be pushing ?10k - ?15k BUT and it is a big but really. A car is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.

The GTi thats up for just under ?9.5k has been advertised forsale for months now; that car was also heavily featured in Performance Golf yet its still forsale. Think its got 30k miles more on the clock than this little gem!

All that said I doubt that any classic insurance company would dispute a ?15k price tag, mainly because how would you find another to replace it (god forbid) if some monkey smashes into it or it bursts into flames. Personally i would take it to a VW main dealer or a specialist classic car firm for a "proper" insurance valuation.

Garage:
83 Mk1 Golf GTi Campaign - Mars Red - Totally Standard
78 Honda Civic 1200 Hondamatic - Silver
07 Honda Civic ES 2.2 CDi - Black, all the options!
