1800 Cab running rich, what should i be checking?

Right,

2 days into owning my cab and i've got the 2 rear windows (that were smashed) done, cost me 80 for both and fitted them this aft but after driving it around i've noticed it reeks of unburnt fuel from the exhaust and cuts out when first started.

I dont know much about this engine but i assume it has a problem with the automatic choke as every now and again it revs to around 2000rpm on idle when at lights etc.

Any body got any ideas what i should be checking for these symptoms?

abest to cheak all the vac pipes and the mounting flange to see if they are all in good condition with no splits
