Hello peeps, I am just wondering why people run kr16v engined cars with bike carbs, thanks

makes the bay look a whole lot tidier, easier to wire in, performance i heard it adds a few bhp, THE SOUND !!

fuel economy suffers though i think :(

As above apparently sticking a set of r1 carbs which have been set up they can give 30bhp. Weather its true i dont know. But the sound is awsome! bad fuel economy though

There's no way 30bhp on a standard kr is possible with bike carbs. Not even on a REALLY optimistic rolling road. Best you could hope for is about 10.

Like said you get a tidier engine bay an awesome soundtrack and more throttle response.

I did this as the injection developed a small problem and am planning on fitting a 9a block next year, so is a lot easier to whip off than all the injection gubins.

Hi,

Well there is a guy in here running a 2.0 16v on bike carbs with a polished head and he had it set up hes running 194 odd!! I am running 1.8 kr and had a read out from a year ago for 164! so it is possible!

The key word was standard. With other work it is more than possible to up the bhp, but just sticking some carbs on a standard engine will never give you 30 bhp.

Out of interest pat what jets are you running.
Mine is on 170's and runs a bit lean top end, but i think thats more to do with the lack of filters causing ram air effect through the gap between bonnet and slam pannel.

Torque
Throttle response
Sound
Tidy bay

Don't get the torque and throttle response reasons. Carbs are such an inefficient way of delivering fuel to an engine. Yes they are simple to setup and clean the bay up but you will be pouring loads of fuel into her !!
Injection everytime for me.
