the black and silver mk1's have been in several books and the silver GTI was at gti international a few years back……it really bugs me that the bagdes are clearly in the wrong place you'd think with cars as mint as these they could postion the GTI badge right  :banghead:

…GTI badge in the wrong place…

Even more annoying when you know that the silver GTI belongs to VAG UK  8O  and that the badge has been like that for years (as seen at various shows).
The image of the black one was used in a mini-brochure that was slipped into papers and magazines in 1999 to celebrate 25 years of the Golf. Given the similar badge position, and (vile) BBS spoiler, I reckon that it's the silver one, made black with Photoshop.

I suspect both of them a VW press cars - shows what VAG UK know about the MK1 - they are the same when you go in to buy parts for one...

VW are taking off the BBS kit and wheels from their silver Mk1 and putting it back to original condition. Let's see how it turns out.

The VW Mk1 press car had its front GTi badge in the incorrect place to cover a broken slat in the grille! So there was a good reason although it has taken a long time to get a replacement grille fitted. The car is now minus BBS bodykit and gold wheels - I have first dibs on these now if VW sell them.

The red GTi is either a 81 or 82 Model Year built from August 80 to July 82

The silver GTi is a Campaign and either 83 or 84 Model Year built from May 83 to January 84.

To know an exact date the VIN must be known.
