Golf GTIs needed for Classic and Sports Car Photoshoot.
1. An early 1600 old dash series 1 Mk1 Golf GTI
2. A Campaign GTI in Lhasa Green
Both to be available on July 4th in the evening @ Cowley in Oxfordshire.
Cars need to be standard and in good (concours not necessary) condition.
The photoshoot is for Mk1 > Mk5 Golfs, featuring an 'early' and 'late' version for each Mk. (Other than the mk5 of course!)
If you can help out with this and fancy getting your car in this magazine (good quality mag!) then please post your details below and I will feed the details back to C&SC.
Cheers,
Drew.

Its nice to see the Mk1 came out on top, although they didn't go so far as to split the Series 1 and 2. What's best though, is that your car made the cover! (Admittedly not the main car, though).

Keeping the Mk1 where it belongs
I think there is a paragraph about the S1 being supercool, but the 1.8s are quicker. Interestingly I think only the Mk5 had a higher power/weight ratio than the S1.
The article prompts a few questions:
- what is your favourite model Mk1?
- what Mk would you have in the garage if you didn't have a Mk1?

Great photos and a nice write up. Well done for the mk1s chaps, showing the way forward.
Interesting, but astute, conclusion. I came to this myself after test driving the mk5. It's hugely competent, but it's not much fun at sensible speeds, whereas the mk1 is. You have to be going very quickly in modern cars to get the fun factor.
Don't sell those mk1s!
As for the other mk if not the mk1… Mk2 1992 Runout spec 8v or 16v in Oak Green, the only other GTI for me.
Cheers,
Drew.

Have to say if I couldn't have a Mk1, a late Mk2 3 door 16v in Oak Green or Atlas grey with all the trimmings would be close to the top of my alternatives list.
I haven't driven the Mk5 GTi yeat, but regularly have use of one of the "lesser" Mk5 golf variants and its a very nice drive, and very well put together.

so's mine  maybe im not pushing it hard enough
Tip: wait until 6750rpm to do the gearchange, don't lift off the throttle! It should bounce once, off the 7000rpm rev limiter.
