1978 Mk1 Golf GTI press car driven
RubberDuckMagazine was generously granted 24-hour access to Volkswagen's 1978 Mk1 GTI press car, for a historical 'Rendezvous' feature in the current issue. The white Golf (seen in most of VW's press material) was extracted from the glass tower museum in Wolfsburg - with the plates switched from plastic museum date plates to a WoB registration.
I have owned 14 Mk1 GTIs over my time so far - but nothing compared me for this piece of history. Video and pictures available free and online at the award-winning car magazine of 2010 - RubberDuckMagazine.

A couple of hours prior I was driving the W12 Golf down the Wolfsburg autobahn. The mere fact that I was more excited about the Mk1 confused the life out of VW's PR department.

…did i push the W12? I was allowed two runs of the autobahn, but was kindly asked if I'd be so kind as to keep it to 175mph. It was raining too. Very little works in that cabin, but what an experience.
