no NCB doesn't help either.

You have to be 21+ or 25+???

Try Footman James, classic policy, mine is ?110 fully comp, agreed valuation of ?3,500 on a 1983 GTI. (Im old at 36 !!!) If you get a good price it will be worth subscibing to the club for your discount, 10% I think.

Age and no NCD.

Under 25 year old males are 10 times (not just a bit or double but 10x's) more likely to have accidents than average.

You might be an OK driver but others in the past have made it very difficult for you now.

For classic policy think you need to be 25+, have a another daily driver and usuallly only 3 or 5000 miles per annum.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

I had exactly the same problem when i was 17. It was for a 1983 1.1, And on a London postcode = expencive. i was looking for prices slightly more than ?1300…. But, i got myself my own policy (i think it was with footman James), but it was a classic car policy for young people. Not sure if they still do it though, as i'm now nearly 20, and have since sold the car (now have GTI).

The price was definitely less than a grand, but with a couple of things to rememeber:

You do NOT accumilate any NCB when on this type of policy ( i found this out a year after taking this policy out…. :banghead: )
If you add a family member to the policy as a named driver, a good driver in the laws eyes.. ( i added my dad, been driving for 30+ years and no points), this pulls the price right down….
If you sort the car with an expencive alarm & imobliser (i had a clifford cat 1), this slashes the price even more….
If you have another address somewhere more low risk… a little white lie may save you ALOT of money….

good luck with this.

i will try and dig out my old paperwork for more details.

The other thing is they think if you are driving and "old" car you don't car about it and will just drive like a kn0b.  When I was 17 I could get better quotes on a brand spanking new Fiesta than on a 15 year old golf.  Presumably if you have something new you will look after it, oh and they have better brakes etc.
My Beetle cost me more to insure than my Seat Ibiza "system Porsche" did.  :dontknow:
