SORN, No Tax = Won't insure you!

i have a multi car policy with a well known sea-captain company, and have been really happy with them… so far.

Renewal time, and i have now been told that my policy on the Golf was void from the moment i declared it SORN.

At the end of this summer, i took the car off the road, and put in the garage to do jobs on it.  MOT expired, and declared SORN, but to my knowledge still insured as a car in the event of theft or fire at least.  it would also be covered if i then put it on the road with tax and MOT if and when needed.

Is this right?
I still want the car to be covered even though it woun't be going anyway for 6 months maybe.  i also have no claims acrued that i don't want to lose.

Any ideas?  I have until Saturday before my current "cover" runs out.

Thanks.

Would have thought it would be in their favour if it was parked up in a garage and not driving around on the road causing death and destruction?

exactly my thoughts.  money for nothing really, just covering a big lump or metal in a shed.

got a quote coming from Lancaster for a "laid up" policy!
They asked all the usual daft questions, like number of years no claims bonus, profession etc.  ITS NOT GOING TO BE DRIVEN!!!   :banghead:

the government are thinking about making it law that all cars no matter wot state there in will need to be insured soon so the insurance company's need to come up with a policy for undriven cars anyway

£40ish for a laid up policy in a locked garage through Lancaster!  not bad bearing in mind i was paying £150 for a void policy!

When you took out the policy, did you read the small print, and is this in it?

I have insured cars which have been SORN with no issues.

Plenty of reasons why you'd want a car SORNed to be still insured, etc. For example, driving to an MoT?

Have to say I didn't read the small print so completely my own fault.
