just to say i recommend you give these a call to insure your mk1 . i insured with these on a mk1 golf gti 1983 32yr old 89 quid a yr classic 4000 milage . then with a 1.8t 20v i just done 249 a yr all mods declared http://www.lancasterinsurance.co.uk/

I tried these on a clipper that I've finally put a deposit on and … they quoted £100 per yr fully comp. Not bad at all

Good recommendation - thanks. Just got mine insured for a year for £237, all mods declared and agreed value. (I'm a little bit older than you though mate so don't feel bad!)

Did that require you to have a regular daily car insured? Reason I ask is Bishop Calway can't help me as I won't be on the (ex) wife's insurance come the end of this month so kinda stuffs me up on the impending new arrival, they can't cover it due to a 40mm drop in the suspension!!!!
I no longer have the Mk1!! I now whizz round in a Black 1990 3dr Mk2 GTi 8v but the roof doesn't fold back when the sun shines
