peter best i want to have your babies!
had a massive renewal quote from my current insurers - HIC. rang round loads of companies, many wouldnt quote as the engine change has tripled the original output.
rang brentacre - £499 no agreed value.
lancaster wouldnt quote
adrian flux same as hic - same company
footman james wouldnt quote
peter best - £219 with free agreed value- then i mentioned im a paid member on mk1 owners forum, gave them my membership and boom! £191 with free breakdown, agreed value etc! well chuffed with that. all mods declared, claims convictions, shoe size etc!
happy boy!

What I dont understand is, you take a policy out with them over the phone and you tell them how much agreed value you want ect.
They tell you its fine, send some photos off ect.
Then they get back to you with a low agreed value offer which they dont have to change.
So where do you stand if you dont accept the valuation, can you cancel the policy and get your money back?
If not and the worst happens to the car you get peanuts back.

The worst thing is, the quote they gave you would be for the agreed value they say.
If the valuation goes up they have the right to increase your premium

They can accept your valuation but they would need to see what the car is about.
Lets say its like buying a car, how many times have you seen adverts saying how mint the car for sale is then you see it and you just stand there scratching your head!!!
I would expect though if they agree to insure you at your valuation with documentary evidence. Adverts on car and classics etc, photos, general market prices etc then if they don't agree, you should be entitled to a refund as the terms of a contract have to be reasonably fair to both parties. To take your money and then move the goal posts is doable if you cannot justify the value you place on the car and then prove the value.
It's about what they would need to pay out compared to what you want.
I think we need clarification from one of the insurance bods on here.
That said for me PB have outdone Fluxy etc etc.
I didn't ask for agreed valuation as mine wasn't in that bracket, but hopefully next year it will be.

Only problem with that is it will take longer than 14 days if they dispute it.
Mine took longer than 2 weeks

Why? You tell them you are not happy with their terms and cancel… they can not dispute the cancellation you are entitled to cancel it's part of the contract? As long as you inform them of the cancellation within 14 days. :dontknow:

I took the policy out on the 1st, sent the photos the same day.
About 10 days later they contacted me saying they dont value it the same and they made me a counter value which I wasnt happy with.
I then went back with another offer which they accepted but the whole process took longer than 14 days.
There wasnt one moment I thought about canceling as I wanted insurance.

shame to hear this as i have never had a problem with them, or my agreed value, and after doing some resto work to cars, if i think the value has gone up i send them new photos and they have agreed it (revised agreed valuation) each time, no questions
