Much higher with new alloys?

Hi all,
Does anyone know if getting new alloys (worth around ?500) fitted on my mk1 will bump up my insurance by a lot?

That's a tough one to answer. It all depends on who you're insured with mate. Some turn a blind eye, if you know what I mean and others will sting you. I'd advise them whatever happens but get yourself some top notch locking nuts, it's worth it!

It shouldn't be any higher - unless you have an agreed value policy and its affected the value of the car. If you previously had alloys declared on the insurance and have changed them, or the car came with them as standard equipment, then you should be okay. Insurers would (in theory) assess the pre-accident value of the car in a claim situation and would take into account new parts, etc. if they were settling on market value.

I might be wrong but surely non standard alloys are a 'modification' and as such some insurance companies simply wont even insure the car full stop. I know this is rare but an insurance company reserves the right not to insure you for whatever reason.

Basically if you make a car more desirable/nickable most companies will charge for the privaledge.

Insurance is a real game these days with some companies charging more if your car is metallic and if its pearl, well what can I say!

Some insurers will see it as a 'mod' on which they can load the policy, while others will take a more sensible view and realise they don't actually make it into a more powerful or faster car, etc. For example, my cabby has alloys, it would have originally had steel wheels, but it doesn't mean my insurance is any higher.
