Mk1 insurance... Small engines...

Why is it that i'm getting high quotes on the 5 door versions of the small engined 1.1's?

These are my quotes:-

1.1 3 door - ?1100
1.1 5 door - ?1150

1.3 3 door - ?1250
1.3 5 door - ?1350

All values are approximates, and i've been quoted these with Endsleigh since i'm a student.

I'm 19, living in Birmingham… got my pass plus (certifies as 1 years NCB), and thats it really! Those are the main details i enter… Offcourse, i only chose 3rd Party Fire & Theft for all the above quotes, and their high enough. I bet Full Comp. would hit the roof?

Could people kindly let me know who their insured with please?

I'm really look to insure a 1.3 5 door at the moment, since i should be getting my hands on one very VERY soon.

Thanks in advance to all posts.

P.S. - Would be great if especially the younger/youngest drivers(owners) on here could post.

I would say shop arround, endsleigh quoted about a grand more than i currently pay! give these guys a go http://www.lancaster-ins.co.uk seem pretty reasonably on the quotes i have had, go for a classic poilcy and limit the mileage

im the same age with the a 1.1 5 dr. i was finding insurance expensive as i got 3 points and a conviction (bit of a boy racer) anyways on my mk1 i jus did it under tesco under my dads name. came to 700. not bad. u might wanna consider stickin it under sum1s name. problem is however that u dont get any claims bonus. however generally i found tesco to be the cheapest

Only guessing, but insurance companies may assume that people who buy 5 doors do so bacuse they are more likely to carry passengers in the back. Assume insurance company would liable for any injuries to passengers in an accident?

Well I'm 23, and my golf cabriolet costs me just under ?500 a year with lancaster insurance (as mentond above) that's with a limited milage of 6000 and guarunteed valuation on it as well. The problem is they'll only give you that policy if you have another car as a daily driver.

For using the car everyday, try egg insurance (www.egg.co.uk) I've found them to be ?100's cheaper than most other comapnies for under 21yr old drivers no matter what the car.

So far everyone I know under 21 has saved money with them!

If a 3 door car gets hit in the side it'll need a front wing, new door skin and new rear panel, if a 5 door gets the same damage it'll need a front wing, front door skin, rear door skin and rear panel plus I believe there are more pieces of glass in the side of a 5-door and also two more door that you might acidentally leave unlocked…

You can't insure a car in someone elses name.  People were doing it a few years ago and now you'll find that if you do it and try to make a claim they will investigate it.  If they find the person who insures the car also has another car and another driver is named on one car and uses it regularly they'll void the policy and you'll not only have to pay for the damage but you could face prison time and will never get insured again.

The way around it is to insure the car in your own name but to add another driver as an additional driver who has more experiance/ncd/age - I've got my dad named on my Golf because; a) he uses it every now and again and b) it gets my policy price down.

…oh yeah - and on a 5-door car there is also the chance that a rear seat passenger sitting behind the driver will open the door onto a car/cyclist as they have no door mirror and may not even be qualified to drive a car so may not be aware of the risks of opening your door when parked at the road side.

Hi, I'm onto my second year of driving and lost my noclaims last year thanks to an elderly-no-clue-how-to-drive-driver.

I'm driving a 1.6 mk2 golf 5 door and am paying 1300 for the year with admiral tpft.

I put my mum as main driver last year and yes, it got my policy price down, but when I had the bump EVERYTHING to do with the claim had to be done threw her, and let's just say she isn't the most tuned in person when it comes to anything automotive.

This year I put myself as main driver as it's easier and I get the NCB at the end of it.

Also with admiral I'm only doing 10 months as a bonus accelerator which is why it's quite cheap, after the 10 months I get an NCB, sounds easy enough for me!

I've had 1 crash and 1 SP30 (37 in a 30mph…I wouldn't have got a ticket from a traffic cop I know that).
