Insurance tips....

All,
Not sure if this info will help anyone, but here goes!

Last two weeks been trying to get insurance on my car; Mk1 Golf GTI (83), 3000 miles, 3000 quid agreed evaualtion, living in London, parked on drive, 41 (ouch!), clean driving licence, minor mods (suspension, 4:1 manifold, strut brace). Last year I was with Adrian Flux for 160. Great.

This year need to add the Mrs, this is where problems started;

Adrian Flux - no go as she has only had licence 15 months - they won't honour her driving record from Oz.
Norton - her licence no issue - issue is not having lived in UK for 3+ years!
Road Sure - no mods allowed.
Classic Line - no mods allowed
Endsleigh - classic car insurance - no agreed value - what's the point then!Forget the big companies - they don't do agreed evaluation/limited mileage policies.

Tried a few more and then gave Footman James a go. Without 10% discount they came in at 229.00 - excellent. Granted, more than last year, but wife is on there and car is still insured for 3000.00. With these cars you must get agreed value - best you'll get book value is about 1000 - with a fight maybe 1300!

So after 2 weeks of calls, the answer was on this site all the time!

Cheers
 :wink:

Update - telling FJ that I had another car (which is the truth) brought the policy down to ?140. Excellent - best quote by far - with or without he wife on the policy. :wink:
