Insurance Question (bit random)

This is a bit random but does anyone know what happens if you accidentally give the wrong engine size when insuring a car?  My friend has just crashed his car and it turns out this is what he has done and obviously needs to claim on it now?

Do you think they will just backdate what he owes on the policy or will it be more serious than that?

Hope you don't mind me asking on here!

They'll probably keep what he's paid, cancel the insurance and not pay out!

Tricky one. In theory the engine size should be correct, because the insurance information is taken from the DVLAs computer normally, therefore the engine size of the car that is registered on the DVLAs database will be used on the policy.

If this information is incorrect, e.g the car has had a larger or smaller engine fitted, then this should have been changed on the V5. Changing the engine in a vehicle and not notifying the DVLA is an offence, and can get you a hefty fine!!

Oh dear, This is going to hurt him for some time.

1. insurance will not pay out
2. if another party is involved he'll have to pay from his pocket not the insurancecompany. (some will pay out for the other party)
3. for making a false statement on a insurance doc it will be revoked and he will have to declair this on future insurance's he takes out putting up premuims ( thats if he can get insurance )

If you lie to the insurance company they bite nasty when they find you out.
