Footman James wouldn't quote !!
They refused to quote for my Mk1 G60 at all.
I declared all the mods, 190 BHP G60, 16V Brakes, coil overs etc etc
Looks like I will be staying with HIC again this year.
I thought that I would be ideal business for them 3000 miles, garaged, 40 !!!

I am quite shocked actually because the guy I spoke to seemed frightened after I asked for a quote - he had to go away and ask his supervisor.

An insurance company can choose to cover you or not mate, I'd ask why they didn't want to though and perhaps try Adrian Flux instead. At least you'd still get a discount from them through your membership.

They said that they would not cover the power level.
Going to stay with HIC, I get Club GTI discount from them - have done for the last 6 years…
Too fast for Footman James!!! At least there's other insurers out there happy and willing to have your money, I guess.

That's cool mate, that's why we have more than one insurance deal, covers all the bases. Besides aren't Adrian Flux and HIC sister companies anyway?

The guy I spoke to at HIC knew what he was talking about as well - I always find this with them.
Didn't realise the Adrian Flux / HIC link, does that mean that they would both quote the same ?

Odd - I have 270bhp G60 with FJ no problems.
I think it comes down to the fact that insurers have no obligation to tell you why they won't insure you - hence they might have said it was too powerful, but in fact they have a much more involved "points scoring" system which takes a number of factors on risk, and they simply don't want to insure anything too risky. Dubboy I assume your G60 limited which will be only slightly modified and no doubt your other personal circumstances give a different risk profile (or customer type), etc.
Insurance is a competitive market though, so its not really a massive issue.

You're not looking in the right places. There's many specialist insurers out there, everyone's personal circumstances are different, so you need to find the company who deals with your particular circs. There's a lot of details you've not listed, and I'd not expect you to list on a public website!!! But I think you know the kinds of things I mean:
- age
- location
- occupation
- driving record
- accidents/claims
- marital status
- use of car, eg limited miles? commuting?
etc.

I guess that might have something to do with the fact that yours left the factory with 240 bhp and it is only +30 bhp.
Having said that, HIC quotes are based on the car that the engine was originally fitted to and then they do an increase based on the bhp from standard.
What has been done to the limited to raise the bhp by 30 ?
