FOOTMAN JAMES PROBLEM

Hi,

Just spoke to Footman James. I have a 1983 Golf Cabriolet policy due to expire in July 2010.

I have purchased another Mk1 Golf (as most of us do!!!) and Footman James have changed their underwriters on January 1st 2010.

This now means that they WILL NOT INSURE VW GOLF less than 30 years' OLD
I couldn't believe it. So if you car is W-Reg or newer you CAN'T GET A POLICY WITH FOOTMAN JAMES.

I'm having to switch to Heritage.

If you are lucky enough to own a V-Reg or older then you're OK.

Crikey they are going to loose a lot of business if that's true for eveyone (insurance brokers tend to tell different tales to different people for different reasons)

1983 Mars Red 1.8 Golf GTI
1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

When I asked for a qoute last year and the year before, I contacted Adrian Flux who were able to beat their quotes. Plus I got a discount for being in a club too.

I have both mk1s and my 4x4 Pajero on a multicar policy with Footman James and had no problems at all, its a pity Adrian flux dont move with the times and offer this kind of policy otherwise i would have stayed with them.

Dont ask what your club can do for you, but what can you do for your club?

Hi Lee and everyone

I've got to the bottom of this and can now confirm that we are definately able to insure any Golf over 15 years old on the discounted club scheme.

My apologies to anyone we've told otherwise over the last few days but we have had an internal 'hiccup' which has resulted in some mixed messages being sent out

I'm aware there is another thread going regarding a Jetta which i'm still looking into and hope to report back to the OP of that one next week.

We still want to insure all your Golf's - apologies to you all for the error!!

It looks like it's going to be a rainy day at Volksworld but I hope to see some of you over the weekend!

Regards

Dave

You might want to tell that to the lady in your office who took my call today! She told me NO!!! 1982 mk1 GTi. So I won't be ringing you any more. You can pm me if you want, but I wont bother replying!! Same as your office didn't ring me back 3 times. If you want you can send me a cheque to cover the hour and a half I spent holding for no good reason and also have the decency to put some decent hold music on as Vivaldi is a bit testing after 30 minutes - especially at 40p a minute. I still have my cabby insured with you - G588 APG - check your system as it will be cancelled by Monday!!

Footman James Solution

Yes, I can confirm I spoke with Dave from Footman James this afternoon - really nice guy.

As Dave pointed out on the phone, all of our cars are very well looked after, in fact in better condition than most modern Golf's on the road and will certainly be passing MOT's for many years to come. With many MOT's means road tax and naturally insurance.

I am very pleased that Footman James have acknowledge this issue and responded swiftly and I look forward to receiving a call from member of his team next week with a quote for my 1993 Cabriolet. :D
