Classic insurance for under 25s

Well I'm 23 yrs old, and I have my 1983 Cariolet mk1 golf on a classic policy with Lancaster Insurance.

OK so it's not as cheap as it would be if I were over 25, it costs me a little over ?500 a year, but that's a garunteed valuation on it, and fully comprehensive cover.  If I insured it with a normal company, bearing in mind I couldn't use my no claims bonus on it, it would cost me well over ?800.  If i were able to use my no claims bonus of 3 years on it, it still only drops to around the ?450 mark, so I don't think I'm getting a bad deal there.

Seriously worth trying if you're under 25, and running your MK1 as a second car as I am.

I'm only 21 and had a Triumph Spitfire before my GTi. I insured it with Peter Best for ?290 (fully comp) without any no-claims, so they might be worth a ring

Too many to list but 2 x 1982 Golf GTi 1.6 hatches are the main ones

Peter Best Classic car insurance : 01376 573033

Just had a quote from these guys, very impressed! They quoted me ?360 fully comp as a second car, valued @ ?3k, 1983 Mk1 GTi, i'm 23.

They asked the right questions, which is refreshing!

Yeah, Peter Best are ace!

Lancaster are also pretty good - www.lancaster-ins.co.uk, but you'll need to call for a quote on a GTi.

well I'm disappointed, becasue I've just rung peter best insurance and they told me they couldn't quote me on my car unless I was over 30 years old.

Was just wondering if you could give me any more information on exactly what policy they gave you, and if possible, who you spoke to, as I find that very confusing that they will quote some people, but not others, and get the feeling from the person I spoke to I was being fobbed off.

Mike.

If they are a broker it may be that they can only offer classic insurance to under 25's if they live in a low risk postcode or certain additional criteria are met.

I have a lot of problems with insurance (even classic insurance) and have been driving for the best part of 20 years. Think that always seems to stuff it up for me is the high risk London postcode.

Where do you live?

They didn't even ask my postcode or anything, they just asked my age, and what car I drive which I told them, then she said she didn't think they could insure the GTi, then she came back and said they couldn't insure anyone under 30. Confused, I am??

Blimy!! I've just been quoted ?540 for my renwal with them on my cabriolet, but I'm trying to get it cheaper as running 2 cars is stretching me a bit, and I really don't want to start using the cabriolet as an everyday car.

Anyone know if any companies will do just a 6 month policy on a vehicle like that?? I've never enquired, but might do so tomorrow.

I`m with Churchill for my main car. Just bought my Golf and have it covered monthly for just 3 months with my other car…… it`s 40 quid a month, so not bad…

Sureterm do classic policies for under 25's.  Watch out though, most classic policies don't acumulate no claims discount…
