anything close to a classic policy under 21?

ok, so im 19, and wont be 21 for……19 months yet, so classic insurance isnt an option

it WAS a 1.3, and is going to be a 1.6/1.8 carbed engine, still getting quotes around the 2k mark,

short story of my arseache…..had a 1.3 driver, gave it a full classic restoration, alloys, big brakes, chrome bumpers, new paintjob, interior, suspension, declared ALL of it, and got ripped off extorsionately, but wanted to protect my thousands worht of investment, it then set itself on fire, and they wouldn't pay out, well 200 quid and taking the car, so i told them i wasn't interested and consequesntly dropped the claim.

because of this i dont trust insurance companies as far as i could throw them, and i know honesty should always prevail, but to me this is a classic example of how it doesn't pay.

im contemplating just declaring the engine and lowering springs alone, going with some standardish looking alloys and risking it, as the rest looks pretty oem.

going in my parents name isnt an option either because they dont want me to mess up their premium if i were to have an accident.

so im beggin everyone to please give me some sort of rationale, or a cheap company who (from previous experience of insuring a mk1 golf gti at my age) can be reccomended, i live in the lowest class risk area possible according to my postcode, and dont have any noclaims cos theyve messed me around 2 years in a row.

please can anyone help, or this little car may be going back to a polo 1.3 conversion! not really what i want to do, an engine swap is alot of hassle, when the whole car is being replaced pretty much anyway.

and i dont want to have it as a long term project till im 21, i want to drive it this summer

Can't remember my exact age at the time though i wasn't that old when i got my'75 the first time round and i got it insured through HIC on one of their classic policies.

They should be able to sort you out with something.

HIC sorted me out with a classic policy of ?600 on an 83' gti at 20

I'm 20 and like you I had loads of problems with insurance. I've got  a bog standard gti and they wanted crazy money to insure that. I'm now with Endsleigh who are your classic student insurer but cos I only wanted to drive the golf in the summer they let me suspend my insurance during the rest of the year. It basically means that its insured for fire and theft but not for the road and they just don't charge for the months you're not on the road! Don't know if u want to drive yours the whole year but its a good way to build up no-claims bonus as well!

Another one to try is Adrian Flux, think when I was 21 I paid about ?700 on my Cabby.  Worth a try. Hope that helps
