Alarm / Immob Inurance Approved

Hi All

Just sorting out what we need to insure the 4x4 the car and the gti in 2009,

Need to get the gti on classic policy

I assume a proper alarm / immob will make a difference!

What do i need?

do i need it to be fitted?

any advice please

Many thanks

Matt

Car security requirements depend on several factors, i.e which insurer you are with, the value of the car, whether it's garaged overnight etc.

But in general, some insurers will give discounts for having Thatcham approved CAT1 alarms or Thatcham CAT2 immobilisers.

I used CLASSIC LINE insurance for the cabrio, ?200 fully comp with 5000 mile limit. Even though the car has a cat1 alarm, they didn't require one to be fitted.  8)

I just tried classic line - they gave me a pretty good quote too - ?330 agreed valuation - got a quote from Lancaster and they come in at ?350 with a fully comp.

Adrian Flux, Premium Choice - couldnt get near - the Manchester post code sends premiums sky high! I did a comparison to my old flat in Shepherds Bush - that was over ?120 cheaper  8O

yeah I tried them too - ?270 odd I think.

The biggie is that the car isnt garaged at night its on the drive. Theres no approved immobiliser and the post code - and although its pretty well to do around these parts these days - south/central manchester - we are still classed as a high risk area……although it could just be that we are so close to liverpool…

In the end I've gone for Lancaster with no no-claims, on a agreed value classic policy-5k mileage-3rd party on other vehicles(which is odd for a classic policy I think).

Apparently because my other vehicles from the last 3 years have been company/hired job to job my 7+ years no claims doesn't exist anymore….

Anyway just under ?350 all in….I'm happy enough, though come renewal I'll go for a family/all car policy and stick them all on one
