Adrian Flux - Don't be alarmed!!!!

Having an exchange with Adrain Flux re car alarm discount on my premium.

Knowing I had no information regarding the system on the vehicle, the previous owner had the car for 9 years and had no info I declared it as a CAT 2 Thatcham, despite it being what I suspect is a CAT1 with alarm and internal motion sensors. I have been able to provide the name of the manufacturer only (from a sticker on the window).

I have explained this, however I'm expected to take the car to a garage and pay someone to tell me! As you would expect all the system is hidden away (i suspect under the dash) I've taken a look but there's no obvious signs or indication of the make / model. Sort of the idea with a good alarm system!!!!!

So sent pictures of the alarm fobs, sticker on the window and a video of the alarm being activated upon opening the door, dash ignition lights going on when key put in, key being turned twice, and not working, the video includes an external shot of the car (reg no). However got a lovely reply;

We can confirm in order to continue your policy with the discount given for the additional security on your vehicle; we do need the full make and model of the immobiliser. Unfortunately we are unable to accept any less, however as previously advised we are able to remove the discount and an additional premium is due. If you are unable to get proof of the full make and model of the immobiliser in seven days we will automatically remove this discount and advise you of the additional premium. We trust that the above is clear.

Can't believe they don't come across this all the time with such vehicles, where's the flexibility! Where's the consideration of a set of circumstances where clearly someone is trying there best to provide all the evidence they can! I've sent them a video of it working for god sake!!!

The cynic in me says they know it's going to cost me more to take it to a garage so I'll just pay the additional premium!

The most annoying thing is that I was aware of this and declared it as a CAT2 to start with rather than a CAT1 in consideration of these possible problems.

Sometime these guys just make me weep they really do!!!!

It's a nightmare.

Have you not got any old paperwork knocking about with it to help? Have you the previous keepers NUmber or other means of contact to ask them if they know what's fitted.

Post up pictures of what you to see if any of the members can Identify it.

Just a thought.

I had 2 cars with Adrian Flux, but they have over the last year or so been very uncompetetive.

I am now with Peter Best, They put all the others inc Footman and Premium choice to shame and I got a Club Membership discount.

Aye, they need to claw back all the money they can, now that they've been found out and will be officially investigated, because they're in bed with accident repairers and car hire firms:

It seems petty given they don't reduce the premium for having a car alarm, even if they'll insure you without one!

I insured my 944 with Adrian flux, but when I changed cars they stiffed me for more money. Long story, but needless to say they had me over a barrel and I wont be re-insuring with them in the new year

Adrian Flux are money grabbing gits. I'm trying to cancel my current policy with them at the moment :(

Shouldn't be that difficult to cancel a policy surely.

Beware the loss of monies if your ploicy has been running for more than 4 weeks, most insurance companies operate a sliding scale of refunding.

The problem I faced was that when I changed cars it cost more money to change that car to the policy and cheaper to cancel and go elsewhere.

If it is a CAT 1 and you declared as a CAT2, then technically your details are incorrect, and they could null the policy if you were to make a claim!

I have to say, I am surprised that you are surprised by their response…
If I were in the insurance business, I would't accept someones word on an alarm being CAT 1 or 2 if they couldn't provide a make and model.

i think you had definately gone out of your way with the video and a good idea, but also i sort of get what AL_Mk1 above says it always going to be black and white with insurance companies, no certificate or industry inspection to say model etc then they wont consider it.

i havnt been insured with Adrian Flux before but my advise would be get over to peter best, they have been outstanding for both service and premiums for me for the last 3 years :-)

Hope you resolve it mate

my only suggestion would be trying a mobile alarm fitter local to you and asking if for £20 or something he could swing by and certify your alarm and give you headed paper / invoice with his / her findings
