Admiral Quote!

After trawling through every online quoting site on the internet( :banghead: ) i eventually got a quote from admiral for ?999 1.6 gti fully comp ! Thats the first time ive even been able to get a quote on anything with Gti attached to it! I had to wang various options on like cat1 alarm and garaged etc but the quote was for a policy in my name (parents added (named) due to IAM licence!)
What would you say, yay or nay ?
?1000 is a lot of cash! 8O

Are you kidding, seems like a bargin to me - less all the alarms and stuff you've got to put on :? Given today insurance climate I think thats not bad. Back in the day when I was 20 I had a nearly new 205 1.9 GTI and that was over a grand then, and you can't say insurance has got cheeper!
If you can afford it jamie and its the best quote you've got you don't have much choice anyway :dontknow:

I think i'll have to get on the blower to try getting anything down cheaper than that, preferably with a company that'l take my PassPlus into account also! :D
I'm not on the verge of buying just yet, just researching the ins and outs of it so i know whats what if i decide to go fo the gti!

Cheers for your comments!

Seems good to me for a 20 year old..

Just have to wait till your 31 like me and you can insure a Modded 1.1 > 1.8 Digi with toys for ?300 as a second car ;)

Try HIC (  Herts Insurance ) they do a special golf insurance.

Cheers for all the info, i think ill start off with a lesser model than the gti as it would allow me to spend more on the actual maintainace of the car rather than it going up in smoke and buying nothing at all!

I think the logic behind this at the moment is that i'd rather have a clean base model than a total basket case Gti due to insurance induced poverty!!  :(

cheers for your help, and maybe i'll work up to the Gti eventually!!    :D

I was going to advise the same thing you are planning - seems madness to pay almost the value of the car in insurance. The smaller engined non injected golfs still have the same great looks and handling as the GTi, but should cost a lot less to insure.

The money saved could be put towards tools / spares / fixing up whatever you get. After a year or two you will have built up some NCB and the premiums should be a bit less scary.

Besides a nice early Mk1 non GTi will be far more exclusive - just ask Rajan ;)

Yeah thats a good bit of logical thinking there,

If i can find one (hens teeth?!) i'd like to have a look into the 1.6 diesels, sounds pretty exculsive as i doubt there were many to start with!! 8O  8O  :D

MATE :-D think yourself lucky

I am 20 and pay  ? 3 0 0 0 . 0 0    pounds for my insurance, so think yourself lucky.

And that was better than the "you have to be 21 to drive this car" or the '?5,000.00' quotes i got.

I just wish my insurance was that good.

I am only 18 and have just bought and insured my golf gti.

I got a written quote from admiral for ?1200 TPFT, but in the end, I decided it best to go on my dads policy fully comp. for the first year and see how i get on.

Many insurance companies would insure me for lower had I been 19, so that is a main reason for deciding to wait.

Ask dad nicely and see if he would mind you doing it in his name    direct line would be worth a go if going down this route as named drivers also get their own no claims discount which would be a big help for you in a year or two when you want to take the insurance on yourself  :)

Try HIC I'm 22 3yr ncb and I have me and my mrs who has 3 points and a right off as a nambed driver. We're both fully comp and insured to drive other cars 3rd party and it includes a courtesesy car and I pay ?588 on a mk1 gti. I have got two Immobilisers and alarm and keep it garaged though.

hi,

ive had GTi's since i was 18. im now NEARLY 20 and have only just got 1 year NCB… i never insured a gti when i had a NCB i used to swap cars too much

admiral and elephant are the ONLY companies who would insure me for under ?2000.

1000 is a fairly low quote for you. although then again its only a 1.6..

well here are a few tricks to lower your quote.

take off commuting, just choose social only… you use your push bike for work

10k miles a year or under… then only tell them when you exceed it.

best of all (reduced mine by over ?300). add 3 female drives who have NCB's and a clean license.
i added my girlfriend, my mum and my girlfriends mum, reduced my quote by loads.

as for the cost of it… just pay it.

look at it this way, if you get a 1.1 fiesta i would bet money that the quote is only different by around ?350 at most…

what would you rather do? spend ?350 driving the car you want or by a total heap with a small engine and save ?350.

i now have a audi 1.8T it cost me about ?1000 to insure, but then again a quote on my mates fiat sechiento 900cc would have still sot me ?750…

good luck i hope you find a good quote!
