21 and in need of car insurance! Classic a possbility?
Hi there guys,
I need to find me some insurance for my 1.8 Clipper Auto! Been looking around all day with the usual companies (Footman, Adrian, Heritage) and I am too young for a classic car policy. Adrian Flux gave me a quote for £4500! Nearly pooped my pants!
Anybody know of cheapish classic car insurance for 21 year olds? or even a normal policy.
Was on the trade policy at my dad's garage but now they want £1800 for me a year… think i'll find insurance any cheaper than that?
Any help would be great!
Cheers,
Mustafa

Im 22, 2 years ncb and pay £250 tpft on my 1.6 cabby. Thats with aviva on a normal policy so they might be worth a try.
Trouble is insurance varies so much that a company thats really cheap for one person could be the most expensive for another.
Have you tried all the comparison sites? Thats what I use to get a rough idea of what Im gonna have to pay then go from there.

You can try lancasterinsurance.co.uk there's a bit of a elimination process like… cant be an oil worker, insurance salesman and loads others, along with having
drove for over 4 years and things.. not 100% sure but have a look theres alot of questions u need to answer, when i did it i couldnt get insured, but i think that
was mainly because i got an SP30 4 years ago for doing 50 in a 30 zone a week after i passed my test…..
Good luck mate!

will check lancasterinsurance and try aviva again… im thinking of taking a policy out with aviva on my corsa (driving to uni car ), fully comp, which will give me 3rd party theft+fire on any other car… then i can drive the clipper with no probs… not looking to spend £1500 a year when i hardly rack up any miles… 0 miles in the past week and a half!

this isn't true mate
you can drive other cars on a third party basis for a very limited time only with the owners permission, but the other car also needs to be insured
so you can't do this
sorry

I think it should be okay…. The car is a named car on my dad's trade policy at his garage and is registered to his name (our home)… just checked the MID askMID and it is showing as being insured on the database online… and in terms of limited time only… it hasnt moved in the past week… thats super limited use!

You're fine if its genuinely not your car and its exceptional, not a regular or daily occurence (although they can't physically check this). Insurance companies are very aware of the abuse that DOC (driving other cars) clause offers, and I've heard that many now don't do it, or don't do it for younger drivers. So its worth checking carefully.
