Won't Start!

Post

Hi,
I've just tried to start after a few months of not using it. I charged the battery. When I turn the key it doesn't turn over at all but there's a very fast clicking sound like a machine gun. Any ideas or help appreciated.
Thanks
Adrian

I thinks it's because the starter motor is stuck.
Try giving it a few hits with a hammer.

Or possibly not enough juice in the battery, earth connection loose?

It will help if you have someone else turning the key while you gently tap the starter housing!

Might be worth removing the big cable going to the starter motor and giving the connections a wire brushing to clean them up, also clean up the other connections if they look crusty. Make sure the battery is disconnected when doing this.

As above like Mark said.

After all that I'd not be trusting a battery 🔋 so I'd jump it with another car running just to give it a reasonable boost.

If your battery has been left out in the cold for months not being used it might be knackered.

I always take my battery off over winter and store it at home somewhere the temperature doesn't alter that much! 👍

Thanks everybody. It jump started fine from another car. I think the battery is knackered so even though I'd charged it I suspect it's reached the end of its life.

Time of the year for this common problem Adrian.
Stick indoors this winter and give it a long slow charge for 24 hours before putting it on! 👍
