whining bearing noise when reving the car 1.8 gti,

Post

hi all just got mymk1 golf gti started for the first time in 5 years , had oil and filters changed and got it fired up and was running ok , then a whining noise has come in to the car like a bearing noise, I removed the fan belt to check that it wasn't the alternator and the water pump also, it is still there after I removed it  any ideas, its a light whining sound and its from the front of the engine, could it be the oil pump , I do have oil pressure as the light goes out on the dash and I do have oil at the rocker cover as I have a small leak up there on the new gasket I fitted, how can I check that the pump bearings are beat!!! cheers nigel ,

Trust bearing does it disappear when revving with the clutch down?

If its from the front it wont be oil pump as that sits underneath the dizzy.
How about the cambelt idler or an associated part? Or something as daft as the cam belt cover rubbing on the belt. You should be changing the belt anyway if its been stood idle that long.

no it comes when the car heats up and when you rev it ,  when the revs are dying off the whining bearing  noise comes in as the revs die

yes I replaced the cam belt and idler before the engine went back into the car , the whining noise comes in when the car heats up after running for about 5-10 mins, I removed the top cam belt cover to check for any rubbing , all was clear, I removed the fan belt to rule out that the alternator and water pump where ok , when I rev the car it sounds ok no whining , then when the revs die off the bearing whin noise comes in at the end , any ideas !!!

Can you get someone to rev it so you can try and pinpoint it with your lug?  Might get you in the right area.

i pressed the little red button
