What is this sensor!?

Post

Hi folks, first post in this forum, sending Mk1 I’ve owned, first GTI.

Owned a couple of days and looking around the wiring can see a couple of sensors that have wires cut/not connected on them.

Just wondering if anyone could e Lyme as to what they are!

The first is a plug under this with two wires, currently ones goes across the engine bay and tapped into the starter cables, the other is cut. I’m sure it’s probably meant to be connected to something!!

Many thanks

That's the 5th injector.

It sprays in extra fuel on cold start for a few seconds, the sensor to tell it to work is also in your picture,  it's fitted to the main coolant flange on the front of the engine going to the top of the radiator, brown electrical plug and is called the thermo time switch.

Thanks for that. I’ve grounded the loose wire… starts much better from cold now! I’ll have a look into why it’s been bodged in the way it has, maybe the thermostat stopped working.

Cheers!

I ran without the 5th injector plugged in for a few months as my 4 main fuel injectors leaked fuel so the car would run lumpy when starting from cold as there was to much petrol. New injectors fitted and the problem stopped so I could then plug in the 5th injector
