What is the difference between MK1 exhaust and convertible exhaust??

Post

Hi all,

I found a good offer for a complete exhaust (with manifold) for a Mk1 convertible … "unfortunately" I drive a MK1 GTI.

Can anybody tell me what the difference is? will the convertible exhaust fit or cause trouble?

Thx!!

I believe you asked Mars Red LA2A?
Mars Red it is !

All depends on what year the cabriolet is, from 1988 the cabriolet had the body kit fitted so the tail pipe is longer and the fixings are slightly different.

Just check the fixings etc are the same as yours.

Also could be different down pipes depending on year of car, early cars have 6 bolt type manifold, later cars have the toilet bowel/C clamp type of manifold.

pre 83 cabriolets had the same hangers as tintops but they changed in 83 to the bigger fuel tank and smaller spare wheel well so exhaust hangers moved, I think the shape of the pipes are the same so they can be modified by changing the hangers on the exhaust

I've got a tintop system and manifold on my 85 cab.
Only difference is the hangers, nothing that half hour at a decent welder cant change.

Manifold will fit if the vehicle its coming from had the same lump as yours
