Temp gauge

Hi

1. On my Mk1 centre console there are 3 gauges, the right hand temp one is not working, can anybody confirm what it is meant to measure water or oil? see photo

2. Suggestion for the fault gauge or sensor and where is the sensor?

3. At the base of the Rev counter there is another temp gauge which i assume is water temp, there is a red LED flashing is this connected to point 1 fault?

Thank you
Angus

The RHD gauge is oil temp, not factory fit so it could be using various senders fitted in various places. Follow the wires from the gauge.

The red LED flashes if the car is over heating or the level sender in the top of the expansion bottle thinks you are low on coolant. Check the wiring connector as they can corrode.

The 3 gauges in the centre console are not standard fitment.
The GTi had oil temperature via the MFA display in the instrument cluster

You will need to check to see the gauges in the centre console have been wire in, it's a common upgrade to fit the Voltage and oil pressure gauges and I guess someone fitted an oil temperature gauge to fill the 3rd hole.
