Lift pump relay query

Hi trying to figure out a relay problem but not sure how its supposed to work. I'm thinking the relay stays closed and pump operates whilst engine running but I can hear the ticking of relay opening and closing and alters with revs so not understanding this. Any help thanks

The Fuel Pump relay operates off the coil.  It actually opens and closes so fast that it should appear that it is always on.  The faster you go the more it appears to be noisy is an issue.  Check your Grounds Battery to frame and frame to engine.

So I never hear mine running on my 90's Cabbies.
If I here the pumps running that isn't a bad thing.
Whiney pumps is a horse of a different color.
