Speedo and odometer issue

Post

Evening all.

Having a few issues with the cabrio, seem to sort one, then another comes along.

Any way, this issue this time is with the speedo and mile counter.

For some time, it would count up to anywhere between 17 and 30 and then stop. It would work when i started driving, then stop after a fee minutes.

This didn't really bother me,  until one morning the speedo also stopped working.

Are the 2 things related (i.e. Speedo cable/faulty drive gear) or 2 different issues?

Thanks for your help
Rob

If there's a fault with the cable then the speedo will not read speed as well as mileage.
I guess your problem is a plastic cog inside the speedo which is slipping on the shaft which holds all the number cogs, common problem and once you get the instruments out and speedo out you can glue the faulty cog onto the shaft so it stops spinning.
Happened to me, a fiddly job to do as you have to carfully remove a lot of stuff to get to the faulty cog.
I'll try and find the link to a guide.

edit… Just reread your post and the speedo is also stopped working. I would either fit a new speedo cable or you could test it first by removing the instruments, you will need to unplug the speedo cable so you will see the end, you can then drive the car a little to see if the shaft inside the speedo cable is rotating.
