No spark and having to replace coils alot

Hi all.

I recently bought a 1986 mk1 rabbit 1.8 carb and I'm having issues with getting it started.

It cranks but not getting spark. Changed the bogey cords and the coil a good few times. Each time everything works but the min the battery gets disconnected  (the car still a work in progress) and reconnected I dont get spark to any of the plugs.

I did have the wiring harness replaced. Is the car maybe not grounded correctly or is the coNections on the coil not connected properly?

Please help.

If you haven't replaced your main battery to frame and frame to engine/tranny ground you may want to do so.

As a test, you can take a pair of battery jumper cables and attach one from the negative battery post to frame ground, then the other from the negative battery post to the engine.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.
