1.8 Injector threads

Post

Hi all,

I've only just found this website and have created an account so I apologise if I’m not in the right forum. I recently acquired an old 1984 mk1 1.8 cabriolet in white which I've managed to get going. One problem that I've managed to diagnose is that the injectors are full of **** and the seals are knackered. So, I went on eBay and got some replacements, all sounds good so far. As I went to install the new injectors I noticed that the threads are different :( and won't thread to the fuel lines.

is there a conversion piece or a washer that can bridge the gap and thread into each different thread on both the injector and the fuel line?

've got a brand new set of injectors that are useless to me if not… :'(Any help would be appreciated 20200221_163824.jpg

Welcome. Two different threads were used.
You can either get the correct ones or get a set of the fuel lines that match your replacement injectors.

Cheers,
Ade

Thanks for the welcome, I thought this might be the case :(  does the injector thread size effect the size of the fuel lines at the distributor end? Or is it just an thread change?

Cheers

Only the injector side changes.  I've got a set of hoses. That may fit…new .. that way you get to have new from block to cis unit

Oops scratch that..the hoses I have are for the larger 12mm thread..

Your new injectors look like the air shrouded type, they fit in brass seats, whether they can be fitted in the plastic seats I'm not sure.
I would think you are better off returning them and getting a set to match the originals.

the old injectors are non-shrouded so you'll just have to pop the top hats off to fit them to your engine if you decide to keep them and change the lines

the flow rates etc are the same either way no problem using them with new lines if thats what you want to do.

if you do decide to return them look for the mecedes/ferarri brass ones on ebay often can be a little cheaper than original steel type and are non-shrouded coarse thread type so a direct fit to your car

John,
Do you mean ones like this? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333387853750

Are they like for like on an 83 k-jet? If so, that's a cash saver right there!

Cheers,

J

Are there no difference with things like opening pressure?

certainly not enough difference for it to be noticeable, it was a common thing 10 or so years back as they were up for 10 quid or less per injector before it became common knowledge to the VW owners

Cheers John.

the irony of a Ferrari part being cheaper than a Classic VW part is not lost on me!
