VW Mk1 Clutch cable

Post

Hi everyone

I have a 1999 MK1 VW Golf. 14i

I changed the clutch cable twice now in 5 days. Just above the lock nut on the manual adjuster it keeps on pushing up the plastic sleeve on the cable leaving me with no clutch at all. Any idea on why this might happen?

Thanks

Cornelis

Defective manufacturing of the cables.
When you get a bad one, chances are that when you take it back for a return/refund you will get another bad one.
As it is easier for the manufacturer to let bad ones out and wait for a return, than it is to stop production correct the issue and weed out the bad ones.

Suggest if it happens again get a refund and source a new one from a different vendor.

When I had a clutch, I adjusted the fit so there was no slack in the cable.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Thanks Briano

I have put in a new cable from a different supplier just now. Guy at the spares shop tells my my pressure plate might be going but my clutch still feels good and I can depress the lever with my hand. Doubt it is the clutch getting hard…

Appreciate your feedback, I thought that might be the case…

Cheers
