Windscreen Stain

Post

Oil residue on the driver side of mk1 golf cabby screen.

Has anyone experienced this.  Tried various products to remove, but not shifting it, come to the conclusion its somehow inside the screen.  Thought I would throw this out there before spending time and money looking for a new screen.

Any thoughts help appreciated.

Haven't seen a oil stain per say, but have noticed a clouding that can occur between the laminations.

You might try a Razor blade to see if it is scrapable.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Have you tried methylated spirits to clean the screen?

I had misting on my last screen, this was due to age the screen was delaminating from the plastic. Had to buy a new screen. Not too expensive and clear vision restored.

Welcome to the club first of all.

I don't suppose you have a photo of the problem?
Not sure you can but it would help to identify the issue!

Can't see(!) many things staining glass. Acid and allsorts of chemicals and nasty stuff is stored in glass bottles because its so impervious to everything. Just use more elbow grease to remove.

If it's a white 'milky' stain in the corner or near an edge, its water that's got in-between the laminated glass.

Is its a rusty stain, has some welding spatter hit the glass and now the tiny bits of steel are rusting?

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.
